I am a person who prefers to eat at home most of the time and I can sometimes be quite finicky when eating out / ordering in. The reason being that I inevitably compare the price I pay versus not just with the quality & taste of the food but also the fact that I can potentially make it at home at a fraction of the cost. So if I order in or eat out at a restaurant multiple times, it usually means that not only do I find the food delicious but I believe that it’s worth the price.
One such place that has been added to my list of favorites is a home based business that goes by the name of Karamel. I remember when Karamel started selling cookie cakes about a year back (I think in Feb or March 2015). Though other people had been selling cookie cakes for a while and it wasn’t a new concept by them, Karamel was responsible for making them highly popular mostly because they offered people the convenience of getting them from a public outlet. In their case, their cookie cake slices were available at Nueplex and of course no one can say no to chocolate during a movie!
However, this blog post is not about their cookie cakes, it’s actually about their relatively newly introduced cookie cups which were so scrumptious that I am writing this blog post at midnight.
A cross between a cupcake and a cookie, these single serve cookie cups feature a crisp & chewy exterior filled with melted chocolate in the center.
I had messaged them on Tuesday to place an order – I wanted a box of 6 to try out. They told me I could pick a variety of flavors so I picked white chocolate & milk chocolate, both in white batter. One could pick-up from their location near Mohatta Palace, Clifton or one could get it delivered for additional charges. I opted for pick-up.
Got there at the location where I told the guard that I wanted my cookies. He directed me towards a small gate where I told them my name after which someone came out to give me my order. Loved the packaging – not only does it look but it’s sturdy and makes sure the cookie cups don’t mess around during the ride home.
Got back home and heated them for about 10 seconds in the microwave, just so that they could get warm. A necessary step to make sure the chocolate gets all melted when you bite into it. Had it with Chai and then again after dinner. Major calorie overload but completely worth it.
The box of 6 was priced at Rs.900 so that’s Rs.150 for a single cookie cup. The box of 9 was priced at Rs.1200 for a box of 9 so that’s Rs.133 for a single cookie cup. I found the price competitive considering the quality of chocolate they use (it’s excellent!) and you get a cupcake / brownie for pretty much the same price. Plus I liked the fact that even in the box of 6, I had no restriction on the number of flavors I could choose.
So yeah – give it a try and let me know what you think.
